Hello, I'm Jordan Utecht a Web Designer & Front-end Developer. I'm very talented, overzealous, and driven (I'm very modest too).
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in May of 2009 with a Bachelors in Web and Digital Media Development. Previous to that I attended the University of Wisconsin Washington County and in May of 2006 received my Associates in Arts and Sciences.
I'm currently employed as a Software Engineer at Renaissance Learning where I create tools to Accelerate Learning For All. When opportunities present themselves... I occasionally take on additional projects.
I reside in Marshfield, WI with my wife and kids. Among my professional aspirations I also enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, fixies, mountain biking, coffee, craft beer, racquetball, woodworking, and various home remodelling projects.
I've selected projects to showcase my strengths and talents.
This is by no means the entirety of my work.
This is in fact a sampling of some of my best work. I'm sure every designer has those projects or designs that they look back upon, and say to themselves "What was I thinking?". None of those things are included in this listing. At least not at this time. Perhaps a few months down the road I'll look back and say that exact thing, then feverishly work to update them to my current standards.
WIXX and 93Rock (WRQE), requested that I update an informational page for the 2nd Annual Hot Mess Mud Run.
Using the photos from the First Annual Hot Mess Mud Run I was able to showcase the different obstacles that will be encountered during the run. Using Javascript, HTML, and CSS I was able to revise the previous year's page and raise interest in participating in the annual event.
Y100 (WNCY) asked me to redesign their Country USA page to put better focus on their involvment with the music fesival.
Working with the Brand Manager I was able to restructure the content in a more consumable manner. This process involved consolidating the information into fewer pages and trimming some of the unnecessary content. In doing so we were able to add advertising space to the side of the page and create additional sales opportunities.
Y100 (WNCY) asked me to redesign their annual promotion for Ford.
Working with a member of the sales staff we developed a concept and using the previous content we put together a clean, smooth flowing, user experience. I created a consistent navigation to and a more aesthetic look to the content. Both the sales rep and Ford loved the page.
Y100 (WNCY) asked me to create a responsive texting alert sign up for Mills Fleet Farm.
Client loved the simplicity of the form and how simply the content changed from different sized devices. The client also loved the contrast in the buttons by using the orange Mills Fleet Farm branding when active. This page was created using pure CSS and HTML.
101 WIXX asked me to create a page, for Donald Drivers retirement from the Green Bay Packers, showcasing their involvement with his career and his community contributions.
Promotion received very good attention. I also created a standard gallery that I have been using to promote our internal gallery system. The gallery is built using CSS3 transitions and Slimbox which is written using the Mootools javascript framework.
Midwest Communications assigned a small team of designers to redesign our site theme. Our main focus was the header section. In the past that space was reserved for branding imagery which typically resulted in showcasing a small amount of the stations brand. With the redesign we were also adding new functionality to the sites.
After several wireframes and revisions we created a site theme incorporating a dropdown header with tabbed navigation which included Now Playing, Weather, Current Show, and (when there is) Breaking News. The new site theme has received a good amount of attention, and put's more of the focus on our content. It also gives the user the ability to hide the content by collapsing the header navigation (which is saved by a cookie) so that they might be able to focus on other content.
Midwest Communications tasked me with the responsibility of creating a completely static external "Portal Site" featuring Christmas content on both internal radio station webpages as well as under external domain names.
Site was very successful with high traffic and great sales opportunities. A unique feature is a search-able events listing without any pagination. The main navigation ribbon is also generated using pure CSS. The site was branded under several names to create additional sales opportunities. These included Jingle Wisconsin, Merry Michigan, Merry Minnesota, and Light Up the Lakeshore. Content varied by market so the site needed to be generic enough to be easily populated with content. Sites were created using HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript.
Midwest Communications requested the first of several completely static external "Portal Sites". These featured Halloween content on both internal radio station webpages as well as under external domain names.
Great response through both user traffic and sales opportunities. I received several comments on simplicity and flow. The site was branded under several names to create additional sales opportunities in different markets. These included Wisconsin Screams, Michigan Screams, Sheboygan Screams, Minnesota Screams, and Central Wisconsin Screams. Content varied by market so the site needed to be generic enough to be easily populated with content. Sites were created using HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript.
I suggested to Midwest Communications that we create a page to host all of our internal submission forms for production, digital, and copy requests.
We have simplified the request process and fixed some communication issues. I used the Foundation Front-end Responsive Framework courtesy of Zurb to complete this project so that users can easily submit requests from their mobile devices.
For security reasons I cannot link to the full site.
I suggested to Midwest Communications that we create a page to provide potential advertisers information about our digital products. A unique feature of this page is that it is generic enough to use across all Midwest Communications radio station websites.
The page has been very successful, and we have received several sales leads that have led to new business.
Leinenkugel's sponsored and supplied content in works with Y100 (WNCY) to create a user page dedicated to Cooking with Leinies.
I redesigned a previous version of the page, per the clients request, that was more consistent with Leinenkugel's branding. The client loved the simplicity and flow of the new layout and was extremely satisfied with the new design.
